1. How do you make your filigree jewelry?
I assemble them out of brass findings/stampings.

2. Do you cast your own parts?
No. (I have no workshop, or access to a studio.) Much as I would like to, I'm only a college student, with a student's budget as well. I am not a professional metalsmith and I have no specialist equipment, only tools that can be bought at any hardware shop. ETA: And since I get loads of questions on this, I've compiled a short supplies list below. If you have any other questions feel free to send me a note and I'll do my best to answer :) None of the suppliers listed here are my sponsers or give me free stuff (as much as I wish they would ;)) They are just some places that I've bought from and can recommend.

Supplies List
Glue: E6000 (Available at craft/jewelry shops or Ebay)

Filigrees/Stampings:

Available on Ebay and Etsy-
Mostly I buy here, just search "brass stampings" for best results. There is a huge supply section on Etsy, where sellers have raw brass, oxidised brass, silver plated and different coloured items to suit your fancy.

I love the filigree I got from all these shops on Etsy so I can recommend them, they are very good:

GlamourGirlBeads
BirdysDesignGallery
mermaidsdowry (Very nice seller, will give you free tips on oxidising methods which work great)

Swarovski Crystals:

I buy locally most of the time, Swarovskis might not be available at craft stores, but most jewelry/beading supply shops will stock some. If I can't get it locally I try Ebay/Etsy, and one site that I've ordered from with a very good range is:

Dreamtimecreations: www.dreamtimecreations.com

Semi-Precious Stones

Again, Ebay and Etsy depending on what I'm looking for. I tend to buy in bulk, but if you're looking for smaller quantities, I've bought from Avera Studio Supplies and her stuff is lovely:

Avera Studio Supplies: [link]

Labradorite

Mostly in my newer wirework. I buy them in lots off Ebay, this seller has excellent stones:

bindal-gems: [link]

3. Can you teach me how to make _____ please??
The full tutorials that I have made are available here: [link]

Other progress shots and mini-tutorials can be found in my gallery folder: [link]

4. Where did you learn to make jewelry?
There are hundreds of very good tutorials on jewelry making out there on the internet, and that's where I started. All my techniques are from my research online, or books I have. I look at the jewelry others make and try and figure out how they do it :)

I took a course in metal clay and basic metalsmithing so I've been working to improve those skills too.

5. I want to make jewelry. Do you have any tips?
I'm still a beginner myself ^^; so I'm actually quite surprised when people ask me this. All I can say is, keep learning and never give up. Read more, research more, find out as much as you can. If you have access to classes, go for it! Be creative, be unique, and don't be afraid to try new things :D

6. What's Sodacrush and ValkyrieCouture?
Sodacrush is my first shop on Etsy, where I sell mostly wire-wrapped jewelry as well as charm bracelets, steampunk keys, and pretty much all the random jewelry I make. ValkyrieCouture is my second line, featuring fantasy inspired filigree pieces in aged brass and sterling-silver plated brass.

7. Can you make me something?
Sure. I'm open to commissions, so if you see something you like but want in another colour, or you have a design in mind, just note me and we can talk about it. Note that I'm limited by the supplies I have access to, but I'm always willing to work with you to make what you want :D I can make you a piece in wire or filigree, prices vary according to the complexity of the design.

My name is Jasmyn. I love books and crafting. I'm 20 and I don't mind being shy. I'm from Singapore, where I love hot days for ice-cold showers and monsoon days for everything else. You can read more about me and my work on my blog.

Comments/Notes:I will read and reply all comments/notes, although it might take me some time to get through all of them. Even if it's just a short "thank you", please don't take it as me being distantly polite and not bothering to type a personal reply to everyone. Truthfully, I know it's personal choice for anyone to leave a comment and I really appreciate every single one because I wouldn't be anything without the support of the lovely people I've met on DA. If you want a reply urgently, send a note please!

Favs/Watches/Llamas: Again, thank you all very much for every single +fav and +watch (and llama)! I'm afraid I really can't keep up with checking out every one to say thanks personally, but I'll say thank you here, from the bottom of my heart ♥

Groups: If you send a request to feature my art in your group, I'll usually say yes. If it's for me to join/watch your group, I'll probably check it out first to see if it fits with the things I make or enjoy seeing. Please don't get offended if I don't want to join (and likewise for personal/group watch requests), I reserve right to view the art I enjoy, and I don't believe in "watch for watch" or other silly fame-getting tactics like that. So if I do watch you, it means I honestly love your art :)

Tags/Gift Art: If you tag me to do something, I'll probably answer your questions but I won't pass it on, because I don't want to bother people with things like that ^^; And drawing art based on my jewelry is fine, no need to ask for permission. Do send me the links though so I can +fav it! :D
