Heavy footsteps.

Aether gasps and struggles to the windowsill, tiny arms straining around the brilliant pink sapphire, the masterpiece of her thievery. Outside, her mechanical accomplice flutters its delicate silver wings, already laden with the spoils of the afternoon's raid.

The tiny watchfairy heaves the stone onto her transport's long-suffering back moments before the watchmaker's key clicks into the lock. As he stands, mystified by the mess that is now his workdesk, a gleaming butterfly floats away into the warm afternoon air, wings encrusted with glittering gears and crystals.
