Dawn Treader by sodacrush Dawn Treader by sodacrush
I'm a huge Narnia fan so I need to ramble on about this...^^; The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is such a lovely, lovely book and the way C.S. Lewis describes the ship and the ocean is simply fantastic.

For me this piece is simply full of symbolism - the heart the colour of the sea, the dragons like the prow of the Dawn Treader, the bright star that Caspian falls in love with and returns to... I realise that people probably wouldn't understand unless they're fans of the book. ^^; But all the meaning in this piece makes it very dear to me.. :D

(And I actually haven't watched the movie version. Is it any good?)

Inspiration:

"...A ship sailing straight toward you. Her prow was gilded and shaped like the head of a dragon with wide-open mouth...All the sunlight fell on her from that side, and the water on that side was full of greens and purples. On the other, it was darker blue from the shadow of the ship."
-The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, C.S. Lewis

This lovely pendant was inspired by the Dawn Treader from the world of Narnia, and features a glittering Heliotrope Swarovski Crystal heart (crystal shimmers with jewel tones of purple, violet, blue and aqua.) A stunning pair of dragons flank it, their wings framing a bright star.

This is amazing! Voyage of the Dawn Treader is one of my favorites in the series, along with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I love the movie as well, although I can see why others hate it so much. The way I look at it is that it all comes down to how you like your adapations. Do you like it when directors/producers lace their own interpretations into it, or do you just want a visual version of the story, scene for scene? It also might depend on just who is putting their interpretations into the story.

Anyway, I love all the symbolism and imagery from the story you managed to put into it. :)

Thank you!

Ahh, Dawn Treader and Prince Caspian were my favourites! :D I like it when they have their own interpretations, most of the time even if I've read the books, I don't remember a lot of the detail, and there are always parts of books that don't translate so well into movies.. I loved the Narnia movies, especially the amazing scenery and soundtrack :D And I tend to treat movie adaptations as sort of different "versions" of the books, so I'm not fussed about them being untrue to the books.

Actually I think Narnia was inspired by the Christian faith and that all of the charaters and story line is suppose to illustrate the bravery of the Lord, the sacrafice of Jesus, and many other teachings of the Bible.

I know that ^^; I was actually a bit disappointed when I found out cos Narnia was like the ~fantasy story of my youth~ and I was a bit upset that the whole thing was so religious. Not that I have anything against religion or Christianity, I just wish I had known about its religious side before hand :XD:

Personally I like to find out what the symolism means. Most of my life by now has been influenced by Christian symbolisim so I like finding out those things in books like Narnia.
And why did you like to know the religious side before hand?
Plus Christianity is like a fantasy story mixed in with the acctual truth. Some things can't be explained in the moment but with a leap of faith it all makes sence in the end. (Sorry if I'm confuseing you, and if it's cheese but I see it as being so true that it became a common thing. ^^)

Ahh, it was because I read it when I was really really young and didn't understand religion much - and years later, I didn't like the idea of being influenced by something I thought was just a story, but actually had strong religious grounding. Haha, but I did end up going to church and learning about Christianity and after that, I guess I could appreciate the symbolism in the book better. :) Although sometimes, I like to take it as a "fantasy" story before a "christian" story. I understand what you're trying to say about the leap of faith, no worries

OK, so I tried to leave a message on your Etsy profile, but I'm not a member, and I don't have face book, so I just left it here. I hope you don't mind. Anyway....
I've been thinking, and, I do really REALLY want this, and I guess, in a way, I am a little comfortable with the price now and the added cost can't be to much, but I wouldn't know how to get it to you. By post maybe, but I wouldn't know if it would get to you, or if I would get the pendent. It's not that I don't trust you or anything, it's just that I find it hard to trust anyone. Anyway, If you still want to sell it, just leave me a message here. Thanks.
